Migration questions, answered honestly.

Can a river crossing be guaranteed?+

No. The herds move in response to rain and grazing, and may wait beside a river for hours or days. Strong guiding, good positioning and enough time improve the opportunity, but nature decides.

Is calving season easier to predict?+

The broad January-to-March window is reliable, though rainfall influences where the largest groups settle. It is a rewarding time for green landscapes, young animals and predator interaction.

How many nights should I allow?+

For a crossing-focused trip, several nights in the north are far better than rushing through. A complete Tanzania or Kenya itinerary usually works best when the migration chapter is one part of a varied route.

When should I book?+

Prime migration camps are limited. Planning nine to twelve months ahead gives better choice, especially for July through October and for family travel.
